I even recalled to mind (and repeated to myself more times than I can
remember) Coach Christian Mickelsen's sage advice:

And, yet, every self-imposed deadline for completion of the Sales
Letter has passed.
I just read a blog post by someone-I-can't-remember-her-name that
recounted the her three brushes with death, the last where she nearly
bled to death following the birth of her first child. Since we are not promised
tomorrow (or the next minute), this blogger
promptly began to execute all the things she'd up until then had put
off or relegated to the Some-Day List.
What struck me at the end of the post was her question (paraphrased),
"Do we have to wait for a tap on the shoulder from the Grim Reaper to
get us to move us to action?"
I'm reminded of one of my teacher's, Dr. Dov Baron of Baron Mastery
Institute, who once said in a workshop I attended:
"All you get from
sitting on the fence is splinters in your butt."
I don't know if it was
the blogger's lessons I just read or something
else entirely, but I have a Get Your Year

What's even more
frustrating is when people say YOU are to blame

Here's a case in point:
From time-to-time, I read various online forums (and Twitter) where by
Ideal Clients are likely to post about their challenges in business,
sales and/or marketing.
(Aside: This
is a great tip, by the way. One way to find out what is
keeping your prospects up at night is to "listen in" to their
conversations online via forums, blog comments, and social media
outlets like Twitter.)
This helps me see whether my current solutions are relevant or if I
need to add a product or service to better serve the needs of the
relevant market.
So, here I am reading this forum post from a sales professional who
feels he's being eating alive by the economy. He hasn't sold
any
business for some time, and he's even having difficulty finding
part-time work to supplement his (non-)income until things turn around.
He and his spouse have tightened their belts and cut expenses as far as
they can, and still they find themselves with more month than money
every month.
He is asking whether other's are in or have been in his shoes and what
suggestions would they offer. He's all ears.
"Should
he stick it out or quit the business altogether?"
Now, I'm usually not this graphic (at least in polite company :-)
. . . You are
polite company, aren't you?), . . . but it
makes me want to vomit to hear folks telling people to 'just be
positive' and 'you gotta be passionate and love what you do in order to
succeed.'
If you see yourself in any of the statements above, would you say you
are lacking in passion?
That you don't love your work or helping your
clients enough?
That you're not willing to do what it takes to succeed?
It makes my blood boil.
Some of the most positive people I know are still struggling to find
clients. Some of the most positive people I know absolutely
love what
they do and are passionate about serving others.
But the passion and the love and the positivity isn't paying the bills,
certainly not consistently.
It reminds me of a situation concerning my stepson when I was in a
previous relationship. He was born with a muscular disease
that still
remains unclassified (He's now in his 20s). The doctors do
not know the
cause or the cure for his weak muscles that now confine him to a
wheelchair.
The weak muscles were the reason for major surgery he endured when he
was just a teenager to
insert a metal rod in his back.
So when he was just a few months old, his parents -- religious at the
time -- were told by the other churchgoers that the reason for their
son's condition was they didn't have enough faith!
Can you believe that?
It's that same energy behind the (supposedly well-meaning) statements
that are designed to somehow motivate you to action and make you
gettagrip and pull
yourself up by your bootstraps and succeed for godsakes.
I'm all for personal responsibility, but this crock of you-no-what
is
pure nonsense.
We can beat ourselves up well-enough without any help thankyouverymuch.
You're
definitely not alone.
In fact, your challenges are really pretty
common among solopreneurs and independent sales professionals I work
with.
Can you relate to any or all of these common feelings?
You
wonder what image you are portraying to the world to be attracting the
wrong clients or folks who don't have the money to pay you. "Why are
they coming
to me at all if they have such a small budget?"
You're working a million hours a
week. You feel your business has you
rather than the other way around.
Your income
is inconsistent. You feel worried and anxious. "When I have
lots of clients, I wonder what I'm going to do when it dries up; and
during the lean times, I wonder when things are going to turn around so
I can breathe."

This is the part in the sales letter that I tell you a little bit about

When we work together, we'll be spending a lot of time together, so it
may help to know what led me to create this program for you.
It may seem that the job-related events of my life are very random, but
I think you'll see the line throughout that brought be to this very
place where I'm talking to you through the pages of this sales letter.
Perhaps my first major experience with selling had to do with the fact
that I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness.
And I was VERY involved in the Church, including regularly going
door-to-door in assigned territories to invite people to discover and
embrace the Gospel ("Good News") of Jesus Christ and God's plan for
humankind.
Talk about Cold Calling!
Later, I spent much of my work
experience in the service industry,
including bartending, waiting tables (both casual and fine dining),
orchestrating and working banquets and catering events, and even
dealing table games in a casino.
I eventually landed a
job in a large catering company as an event
planner and human resources manager. I loved HR
(human
resources)
for the uplifting-people aspect.
The administrivia?
Not so much.
In that job, we had several sales people. Unfortunately, they
would do anything to get the job, including undercutting the
competition in terms of price and even misrepresenting the truth (read:
lying) for fear the potential client would go elsewhere.
What a lot of
stress, worry and unnecessary strain!
Circumstances led me to finally leave the company (when my -- and that
of two colleagues who also worked there -- pay was cut) and founded my
own company in the
summer of 2003, where I married (no pun intended) two powerful
competencies:
Wedding Consulting and HR Consulting.
My business went clipping along for awhile until late 2005, when I
discovered Life Coaching. It was in the form of a Sales
Tele-Presentation (via Telephone Conference Line) by who was to become
both my mentor and coach trainer, Terri Levine of The
Coaching
Institute, out of North Wales, Pennsylvania.
Can I say "Triple Wow!"?!!!
This was it!
Why hadn't I discovered the
Magic of Coaching before?
"You know
how you read something or hear someone speak, and you hear the
ring of truth?"
Truly, it was my gifts, talents, skills, and experience that brought me
to coaching.
You are probably
feeling the same
way: Your gifts, talents, skills, and experience
has brought
you
to the entrepreneur you are today.
Thanks be to my life experiences, which — along with
my
excellent coach training — have taught me compassion, love,
deep
listening skills, and how to powerfully support others to make swift,
dramatic, lasting, transformational change in their lives.
What can be
more satisfying than that?
Of particular value
to me during
my coach training was equal emphasis on marketing and selling.
Terri Levine made it clear that we really had two occupations
for
which we would always be learning and honing our skills:
Coaching
AND Marketing/Selling Coaching (or better said,
Marketing/Selling the
benefits of Coaching).
I think this is the
big surprise
for most of us who go into business for ourselves. We're good
at
what we do.
We love the actual
technical or
creative skill we've spent so much time, money, and effort in
developing, training for, and honing. It's the service we
offer.
Maybe we're
even the best at it.
Since we're so
great
at it, where are all the people clamoring to do business with us?
It's the business
side of things,
including marketing and selling our business services, that we may not
be prepared for. . . or even like.
I author a blog
called TheMagneticEntrepreneur.com.
I love the imagery of
a magnet because a magnet doesn't struggle to attract what it is
naturally drawn to.
So, why do you -- oh
Magnetic Entrepreneur -- struggle to attract your most perfect clients?
I like to tell a parable about the
importance of deliberately releasing ourselves of struggle in life and
business. I heard it told by Dr. Robert Anthony years ago on
an
audio program I had purchased.

The audio is just 2
minutes, 41 seconds long (where I also add to the parable how I almost drowned,
to
really drive the point home!)
So, there were these
3 Taoist
philosophers walking in the forest, when they come across a river where
they discovered a dead old man bobbing up and down in the churning
water.
Horrified, the
philosophers began
to weigh carefully amonth themselves how in the world they were going
to get the old man up out of the water and give him a decent burial.
Suddenly, the
supposedly dead old man pops out the water and goes cheerfully on his
way.
Stunned, the
philosophers catch up with thim and ask him "How are you still alive?
No one could survive in this water!"
"Easy," says the old
man, turning to them.
"I just went up when
the water when up, and I went down when the water went down."
Why didn't the old
man drown?
It's because he went
with the flow.
Clearly,
the outcome for the man
would have been entirely different had he in fear -- finding himself in
the midst of turbulent waters -- struggled, floundered, and
uncontrollably swallowed and choked on the waters of the river.
The core message for us is that whenever you're struggling, you're
miscreating.
Did you get that?
"Whenever
you're struggling, you're miscreating."
Yet, as I mentioned before, we
who might be Magnetic Entrepreneurs,
don't always feel very magnetic. In fact, it is
not a stretch to say
that many entrepreneurs and sales professionals are addicted to
struggling.
This is what brought me to develop the Magnetic Entrepreneur Get Your
Year in Gear Coaching Program, because this
struggle addiction
manifests in many ways, not least of which is a lack of clarity about
who we are, what we do, who we do it for, and how exactly we serve our
perfect clients.
There's a resistance to
define a specific target market and ideal client in the first place,
and then to address and hone into what they really need and want.
I've been there, let
me tell you!
Who wants
to "target"
anyone? Who wants to BE a target?
I consider myself a
heart-based
business owner, so I also wrestled with the whole notion of having to
exclude people from the services I offered.
But, then I got it.
It was only when I
stood up and
defined myself as the
Spiritual Business Coach to Independent Sales
Professionals did I begin to experience a groundswell of
qualified
leads, prospects and clients.
All that changed was
my mindset, my energy, and my focus.
I know this is a
difficult pill to swallow for many of you.
In fact, my heart
went out the
other day when I was listening to a Life Coach who is currently in
transition
with regard to who she helps and most definitely with regard to how she
articulates this. It was at the
beginning of the talk she was giving, and she actually was doing pretty
good until someone in the audience mentioned that it was a unfortunate
that none of us were in her target market.
"Well, . . . I can really
help anyone. . ." she began.
Ouch.
Who is anyone?
How do you address the specific needs of everyone?
Even if it were
possible, is "anyone" and everyone a
perfect, inspiring, and joyful match
for YOU?
"Tshombe . . . inspires and

Tshombe radiates incredibly positive discernment and encouragement

At an event he hosted, he noticed some language that I used and gently
invited me to notice how I could enhance my message.
His subtlety and grace in mentioning this nuance was just one shining

Right from the first invitation and through our subsequent meetings,

I didn't tell you
that there was another reason I struggled building my coaching business
at first.
Definitely a big
piece of the
puzzle was offering myself as a general business coach. But,
I
was
also heavily influenced by the sales "professionals" who were
less-than-honest at my previous place of employment.
I certainly did not consider myself one of them!
Additionally, over
the years, I've
been recruited and involved to varying degrees in different
MLMs (AKA "Direct Sales"), such as Amway, Melaleuca, and Primerica
Financial Services
(which I actually did enjoy, though after passing the State Exams, I
realized I didn't really want to sell insurance).
I didn't want
to feel pushy, inauthentic, or impose on my friends and family.
Sales and selling as
I was taught, both in trainings and through experience, left a bad
taste in my mouth, to say the least.
Then, one day I
thought, . . .
"What
if selling WAS coaching? . . . Helping others get
what they want.
How
would that look?"
So, I started this
process of
inquiry that transformed
marketing and selling into the very thing that
today makes my heart sing when I'm engaged in it:
Coaching.
When I'm marketing
and selling to
my perfect clients from of place of joy and integrity and love, I am
serving them whether or not they become a client of mine.
I feel even this
sales letter to
you is a gift, and expression of who I am, and a way to connect
spirit-to-spirit with those I am meant to serve.
This energizing,
inspiring frame
of reference also forms the theoretical framework from which I began
